GameDay: UConn meets a familiar foe in the Sweet 16

San Diego State and UConn have met twice in the NCAA Tournament before, including last year. This time it's different.

The UConn Huskies are in Boston for a meeting with San Diego State that is loaded with implications.

In addition to facing a rematch of last year’s national championship game, the Huskies have folks with deep ties to the area, including Alex Karaban and assistant coach Tom Moore.

They’ve also got a chance to make program history, again. This will be the case with each passing round as Dan Hurley begins to stake his claim for having the best two-year stretch ever at UConn.

With a win, the Huskies will be in the Elite Eight in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1999, and kick off a serious discourse about this team’s place in program history.

To help you get ready for tonight’s game, we’ve got a podcast, a YouTube preview show, and numerous articles across multiple sites. Enjoy!

Matchup Stats

UConn has the advantage in most major categories on both ends of the floor. Though the Aztecs are known for their defense, the Huskies are stronger in every key metric besides forcing turnovers.

Offensively, the story is similar. UConn has the advantage in all categories but one: getting to the free-throw line.
