Rapid Recap: UConn handles Georgetown, 80-67

The Huskies were up early and kept a solid buffer throughout in a relatively comfortable win.

The UConn Huskies had little trouble with Ed Cooley’s Georgetown Hoyas at the XL Center Sunday afternoon. With dignitaries such as Ray Allen, George Blaney, and Tyler Olander in attendance, Dan Hurley’s squad took a nine-point lead into the halftime break in a game that ended 80-67.

Alex Karaban led the way with 26 points while Cam Spencer scored 20 on a day where the Huskies’ threes were falling, though they did not have their best performance in rebounding or limiting their turnovers.

UConn advances to 15-2, 5-1 in the Big East, with a home date against Creighton up next, on Wednesday, January 17th. That game will tip-off at 7 p.m. on FS1. The Bluejays are ranked 15th overall in KenPom (22nd Offense, 15th Defense) and hold a 13-4 record, 4-2 in the Big East.

It was not the Huskies’ best game or overall performance, but with Donovan Clingan out for the fifth game in a row, they’re 5-0 and handling it well. After the game, Hurley said we’re close to seeing him on the court soon.
