Rapid Recap: UConn slays the Musketeers

The Huskies were in charge from the start and didn't let up until they were up by over 30.

The UConn Huskies made quick work of Xavier on Sunday afternoon at the XL Center, 99-56, for their eighth win in a row. It was the program’s second-largest margin of victory ever in Big East play, behind just a 96-51 win over Cincinnati in 2008.

Dan Hurley’s squad started the contest with a 10-0 run and kept the intensity up throughout, as the visitors didn’t get into double digits until a three-pointer with 3:25 left in the first half made it 38-12.

Tristen Newton was leading the scoring charge for the Huskies, as he finished with 22 points, four rebounds, and four assists while Donovan Clingan finished with 18 points in his first start since returning from injury. The big man also hit his first career three-pointer.

UConn improves to 18-2 (8-1 Big East). Next up, the Huskies are hosting Providence at Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is at 8:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on FS1.
