Rapid Recap: UConn takes down Marquette, 74-67

The Huskies were up double-digits most of the way before holding off a late MU run.

The UConn Huskies traveled to Milwaukee and left with their chests held high after decisively beating a top-10 Marquette team for the second time in three weeks.

The final score was 74-67 on Wednesday night in Fiserv Forum in a game that was not as close as the score suggested. The Huskies led by as much as 14 and held the lead for the last 31 minutes. Alex Karaban bounced back for UConn (27-3, 17-2) with 23 points while Cam Spencer and Tristen Newton also had good nights.

After a back-and-forth start, UConn pulled away down the stretch in the first half as Marquette star Oso Ighodaro hit the bench with foul trouble. The Huskies took an 11-point lead into the break.

The Golden Eagles did a respectable job of fighting to stay in the game, but Spencer got going in the second half to help Dan Hurley’s squad stay ahead. The Huskies dominated the boards and shot well from behind the arc to hold on for the win.

Next up, the season finale at Providence on Saturday night.

The Friars are 19-11 with a 5-4 record since losing to UConn in Storrs on Jan 31. Tip-off will be at 8 p.m. from Amica Mutual Pavilion and the game will be televised on FOX.
