Resurgent Huskies have the nation on watch
With March on the horizon, Dan Hurley's squad is looking like a contender (again).
Despite a mid-season stumble, the back half of the regular season has seen a steady climb back into the national picture for UConn men’s basketball.
After beating St. John’s by nine on Saturday, UConn has won three in a row and six of its last seven. The “revenge tour” Jordan Hawkins was talking about is in full force.
Though a 5-seed is most likely in the Big East Tournament, nobody wants to face the Huskies at Madison Square Garden. In the regular season, Xavier has beaten them twice, while UConn split the season series with Seton Hall, Creighton, St. John’s, Marquette, and Providence.
UConn’s rising confidence and “home-court” advantage in MSG could make the difference in a wide-open tournament where the top five are all fairly competitive against each other. Four teams are in the top-18 in KenPom, led by UConn in fifth, while Providence sits at 27th.
You’ve gotta like the Huskies’ chances.
Jordan Hawkins is averaging 19.9 PPG over his last 11 games. He has the makeup to take over the Big East Tournament with his shotmaking in two weeks. Connecticut is the team that wasn’t in that Top 16 reveal last Saturday that is deserving of a spot now. Huskies are cooking.

Dan Hurley’s squad has shown resilience and toughness across the season. Barring injuries or a Steph-Curry-at-Davidson level bracket matchup, this should be the team to break through for the first NCAA Tournament win of the Hurley era.
They could also go pretty far: Vegas has them in the top 10 for national championship odds. They could return to the Garden for the NCAA Tournament’s second weekend and also have a chance of being in Albany for the first weekend.
The stage is set. Will 2023 be a postseason to remember?
Inside the mind of a St. John’s fan
This year, St. John’s beat the then-highly-ranked Huskies on the road, giving the Red Storm a chance to sweep a ranked league opponent for what we can assume would be the first time since Bill Clinton was president.

Ouch.
It was not a good day, or night, for St. John’s fans…

A Good Day
Shout out to Jared Kotler, host of the CT Scoreboard Podcast, for getting a group of over 200 sitting together at Madison Square Garden!
Man was that fun. We really packed the section. 200+ seats. Everyone really loud. Great to meet everyone and hope you all fun! Again next year?

It was a day filled with tremendous vibes for Husky fans. In the post-game press conference, Hurley praised the crowd and his team’s offensive performance.

Later in the day, men’s hockey demolished New Hampshire at the Toscano Family Ice Forum, 6-1, and women’s basketball came back in the fourth quarter to take down DePaul. It was a baseball win short of being a perfect day but still a pretty good one!
