Seton Hall Gameday: The grand finale at home

Four seniors and one very important dog are being honored today.

UConn men’s basketball’s final home game will be a big one: it starts early with a Senior Day ceremony honoring four players: Cam Spencer, Hassan Diarra, Tristen Newton, and Andrew Hurley.

The game tips off at noon and will be televised on CBS with the network’s leading announcing and sideline teams.

The Huskies have a chance to meet a significant program goal by clinching their first outright Big East regular-season crown since 2002. They’ve already secured a share but with three games left, they need a win to have it all to themselves. They can also complete the home slate undefeated with a win.

In addition to the seniors being honored, UConn’s live Husky mascot Jonathan XIV will be making his final appearance in that role before handing his collar off to successor Jonathan XV, a huge moment in the school’s history.

On top of that, at least one and maybe a few Husky underclassmen are making their final appearances in Gampel Pavilion. Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan have first-round NBA Draft projections and Alex Karaban also could make the call to go pro.

UConn vs. Seton Hall Preview

TV: CBS (Ian Eagle, Bill Raftery and Tracy Wolfson)

Radio: UConn Sports Network

Odds: UConn -15, over/under 141.5

KenPom Predicted Score: UConn 77, Seton Hall 63 (89 percent win percentage)

The Huskies haven't played a game in eight days, since the thorough beat down of Villanova last Saturday, while Seton Hall visited Creighton on Wednesday and got whacked. But the Pirates did win 5 of 6 before that and also notched a win in the season’s first meeting.

UConn will have vengeance on the mind after falling in Newark on Dec. 20 in the game where Donovan Clingan went down with an injury. The Husky defense has been clicking since his return; the matchup between Kadary Richmond and Castle will be one to watch closely on the perimeter.

After this, UConn heads to Milwaukee on Wednesday to meet Marquette and then closes out the season at Providence. The Big East Tournament begins the following Wednesday with UConn's first game on Thursday.
