Entering their November 17, 2007 game against Syracuse, UConn football was ranked #24 in the BCS standings and had a borderline-unbelievable record of 8-2. The squad was stacked with future NFL talents Darius Butler, Donald Brown, Anthony Sherman, and Tyvon Branch, while also counting Andre Dixon, DJ Hernandez, and Tyler Lorenzen in its cast of contributors.

In front of 40,000 UConn fans, the Huskies took control of the game early on and went into the locker room leading 21-0 at halftime. A sold-out Rentschler field was roaring with UConn faithful hoping to watch their team seal a perfect 7-0 home record on the season, a feat no Big East team had accomplished since 1993. When the final whistle blew, the Huskies emerged victorious, having squashed the Orange 30-7.

UConn improved to 9-2 on the year and would go on to lose to WVU in the infamous “WVU scores again” Big East Championship before suffering a season-ending defeat to Wake Forest in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Despite these two late-season losses, the ‘07 campaign was a big success for the Huskies and they’d build upon this success the following season.
