How UConn pick-and-rolled its way past Marquette

The Husky offense eventually started clicking thanks to Donovan Clingan and their depth.

The Big East Tournament championship game started off slowly, to say the least. Through the first 20 minutes of action, the Huskies scored just 26 points on 30 percent shooting and led Marquette by three at the break.

In the second half, the Husky offense exploded, scoring 47 points en route to their first Big East Tournament Championship since 2011.

Let’s take a closer look at how it happened.

In the first half, we see how Marquette wants to guard UConn’s ballscreens. Ighodaro is a unicorn in his ability to switch 1-5 and Kam Jones is fighting in the paint to keep the ball from Clingan. Castle ends up driving into traffic and gets his shot swatted.

Now let’s get to the second half. UConn forces two switches and then resets. This time the Huskies get the ball to Clingan. Marquette collapses to him, Clingan finds his shooters and UConn gets a great look. This one doesn’t go down but it’s a perfect process.
