Headlines
We are on to… Georgetown?
Ok, we didn’t expect tonight’s semifinal matchup to be taking place against Georgetown, but we absolutely expected UConn to handle business on Thursday night against Xavier.
After a painful loss that let a share of the Big East regular-season crown slip out of their hands, the Huskies picked up where they previously left off, posting a commanding 93-68 victory over the Musketeers.
We expected 3-seed Villanova to be up next, but they faltered down the stretch against Ed Cooley’s 11-seeded Hoyas on Thursday night, losing 78-64.
Georgetown has two good bigs and has fared well in the rebounding battle in two close games against UConn in the regular season.
More on the Georgetown matchup from Storrs Central and The UConn Blog. Analytically, the Huskies have an advantage in all major categories, but the Hoyas have an edge in “don’t gaf” and “having nothing to lose,” as well as “playing with house money” and “no one believes in us!” so anything can happen.
Friday night’s first semifinal pits St. John’s and Seton Hall, tipping off at 5:30 from Madison Square Garden. The first game will be televised on FOX and the second at 8:00 p.m. on FS1.
Women’s hockey
There’s nothing quite like beating your rival when it matters most.
That’s what the UConn women’s hockey team did Saturday, when it dropped Northeastern in the Hockey East championship game to claim its second title in three years and officially punch its ticket to the NCAA tournament.
On Thursday night, they captured the program’s first NCAA Tournament win with a 4-1 triumph over No. 9 Princeton. They’re taking on No. 3 Penn State on Saturday for a shot at the Frozen Four, which will be at Penn State on March 20 and 22.

Men’s hockey
While the women’s team surges in the postseason, the men’s team can only hope to do the same after a difficult end to its regular season. The Huskies battled UNH, Providence, and mainly their own goal-scoring woes in the final weekend of the regular season, beating the Wildcats and falling flat against the Friars to wrap up an 18-11-5 overall record on the 2025-26 season.
As the top three seeds all earn byes to the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament, the Huskies await the winner of Boston University-Vermont on Wednesday. The Terriers rode a three-goal third period to a 4-1 victory and are now set to face UConn on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Huskies still sit at No. 15 in NPI, and their NCAA tournament hopes still bank mostly on taking home the Hockey East title. The road starts with BU, with a looming semifinal between the winner of UMass-Northeastern.

Baseball
Since we last checked in with the UConn baseball team, the Huskies have turned a 4-7 start to their season into a 7-9 record. Not monumental progress, but UConn locked up some good building-block wins as it looks to turn its slow start around.
The first step came last Wednesday, when the Huskies collected their first win at home in their first game at home. Evan Menzel hit for the first Husky cycle since 1999 as the Huskies knocked off New Haven, 9-4.
Then, it was down to Virginia, where three games with Old Dominion awaited. Pitching propelled the Huskies to a 4-2 win on Friday before the bats took over in a run-rule win on Saturday. A comeback fell just short Sunday as UConn’s small win streak, another building block, came to an end.
Tuesday saw its first football score of the year when the Huskies welcomed Boston College to town. It was a four-and-a-half-hour slugfest that featured 38 hits and 45 runs between the two sides, with UConn falling, 26-19. The Huskies made five errors on the day and allowed seven unearned runs.
The Huskies head west, starting a stretch of nine games in 10 days, while the rest of the school celebrates spring break. A weekend series with Portland awaits first, with the first pitch Friday slated for 9 p.m. ET.
After the Huskies return from California, they play one final non-conference game vs. Quinnipiac before launching into their Big East schedule. As a primer, check out our conference power rankings below.
The Year-End Moves No One’s Watching
Markets don’t wait — and year-end waits even less.
In the final stretch, money rotates, funds window-dress, tax-loss selling meets bottom-fishing, and “Santa Rally” chatter turns into real tape. Most people notice after the move.
